Math Battleship.

Battle My Math Ship is a two-player game where you try to guess the location of a ship that each player hides on a grid invisible to your opponent. Each player is given a page containing two grids and a sheet to identify the squares of their choice and display their work. The object of the game is to correctly guess the enemy’s position to solve the problem and sink all the enemy ships.

How do you play Math Battleship.?

Each player secretly marks a specified number of battleships on the battleship grid at the top of their sheet. They do this by drawing ships, marking Xs, shading boxes, highlighting, etc. at selected locations. The BOTTOM battleship grid is what you use to select squares to attack your enemies.
Arithmetic battleship fun! Secretly pick tiles, solve math problems and sink ships!

Each player names the letters and numbers that identify the columns and rows from the grid below to name the squares containing enemy ships. Each player then solves the task and tells the opponent the answer.

After each player solves a problem, the enemy checks this space to indicate whether it “hit” or “miss” the battleship. Each player checks the squares that the opponent attacked and answered correctly, and writes his HIT on the squares containing ships. If you do not answer correctly, you can attack that square again on another turn.
The first player to sink all or most of the enemy’s ships in the allotted time wins the game!!!

This game is a play on the classic battleship game, with a few twists. Instead of guessing coordinates to sink your opponent’s ships, players must solve math problems. Players can customize the game in a number of ways by changing the type and difficulty of math problems. It’s great for honing addition, multiplication, fractions, and more!

How long does it take to play?

The game lasts 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the mathematical concepts. I know you have limited time to play games in your classroom. no problem! I often give my students a time limit to play games. The winner is determined by the player who sank the most battleships during that period. The fact that I don’t have a specific time requirement and the fact that my students like to fight ships is why this activity has become the most popular math practice activity I use in my classes.

How did you create the game?

The idea came from Milton and Bradley’s original Battleship board game. This was my favorite game as a kid, so I had to find a way to give my students an activity that gave them the same fun as when I was a kid and of course involved learning math! This game is easy to assemble with domino sets that kids can find at most toy stores. It starts with setting up the dominoes in a shape or pattern and then taking turns trying to knock them down. Players learn about multiplication tables and practice math problem-solving skills. The greater the challenge, the more thrilling for the players!

Tangrams.

Tangrams is a great math game for both boys and girls. To play the game kids need to assemble seven puzzle pieces (often a square, five triangles, and one parallelogram if making animal shapes or other designs) into different shapes. Players must use their math skills to figure out how to make the right shape using the right number of pieces. This encourages problem-solving and spatial reasoning.
