Discord’s notifications can be helpful, but getting pinged for every reaction to your messages can be overwhelming. Fortunately, you can turn off these notifications without losing the important ones. Here’s how to disable Discord’s reaction notifications on Android, iOS, and desktop.
Why Am I Getting These Notifications?
Discord recently rolled out an update that enables message reaction notifications by default. This feature alerts you whenever someone reacts to one of your messages. While it might be helpful for some, it’s unnecessary for others, prompting a flurry of complaints on Reddit and X.
Disabling Reaction Notifications on Mobile
To turn off reaction notifications on Android or iOS:
- Open Discord and tap the Notifications tab.
- Tap the three-dots icon at the top right corner.
- Go to Notifications Settings.
4. Scroll down and select Never in the Reaction Notifications section.
This will stop your phone from sending reaction notifications while keeping other Discord notifications intact.
Disabling Reaction Notifications on Desktop
To turn off reaction notifications on Discord’s desktop app:
- Open Discord and click the Settings gear icon next to your username.
- Go to the Notifications tab.
- Scroll to find Reaction Notifications near the top.
- Toggle it off.
Once disabled, you’ll stop getting reaction notifications, but general notifications will still come through.
Final Thoughts
Not all users received reaction notifications at the same time. Discord often rolls out changes in phases, gathering feedback and fixing issues before making features universally available. If you don’t see the option to disable reaction notifications, ensure your app is updated to the latest version.
The recent update also increased the size of reaction icons. Some users appreciate the improved visibility, while others find the larger icons distracting. Unfortunately, there’s no immediate fix for this change.
